What are Wooden Pallets?

A Pallet is a flat transport structure which is made of wood, plastic or metal. It supports variety of goods in a stable manner and it can be lifted by any mobile forklift device.The goods herein can be supported and secured by straps. Wooden pallets however are the most commonly used types of pallets. They are pallets made out of wood.

Usage of Wooden Pallets:

Wooden pallets are the most commonly used pallets in the world. They are the highly used pallets in the United States. Majority of the pallets are made of woods so much that the percent of wooden pallets is 90 percent.
90 percent of pallets are made out of wood due to a variety of reasons. They cost cheaper against all their benefits. There are a number of advantages of wooden pallets as well as disadvantages.

Advantages of Wooden Pallets:

1. The cost of wooden pallets is cheaper than that of metal or plastic ones.
2. They are made from renewable resources and are easily recycled.
3. The damage and repair of wooden pallets is very easy.
4. They have high friction compared to plastic and metal.
5. They are much more strong and reliable than what their cost should offer.
   

Disadvantages of Wooden Pallets:

1. Wooden pallets become humid and moist when exposed to moisture.
2. Their cleanliness is a difficult task.
3. Splinters can be found in them.
4. Special care has to be taken as they are prone to a number of insects and plant diseases.

However, wooden pallets are a cost effective option but if you are looking for a light weight transport good then you could choose another pallet.

Dimensions of Wooden Pallets:

There are several dimensions of wooden pallets but the most commonly used ones in the United states is about:

• 48″x40″x5″ (1016 mm x 1219 mm x 120 mm)

The commonly used dimension in Europe is about:

• 47.24″x32.50″x5.00″ (800 mm x 1200 mm x 120 mm)

Wooden Pallets and Recycling:

Wooden pallets that are damaged can be easily remade using other wooden materials and pallets. Also for those wooden pallets that cannot be repaired at all, they can be turned to wood chips used for animal bedding and playground mulch.

Purchasing Wooden Pallets:

When buying wooden pallets, there are a several things to be considered. First of all you should see for what purpose do you need the wooden pallet. If you don’t need it in large amount then you consider buying used wooden pallets.

However, if you want to purchase the wooden pallets in large amounts and in various dimensions then you will have to contact for new ones.
In case of international transport, wooden pallets must be specifically treated against insects and plant diseases.
